Joanne was born October 2, 1932 in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Irene Florang. She was a graduate of Iowa City High School, Iowa City, Iowa. Joanne was united in marriage to John "Jack" Seydel in Iowa City, Iowa on November 9, 1951; Jack later passed in 1986.

Joanne was a homemaker while married to Jack. His passing brought considerable hardship to her as she looked for employment. However, her kindness and loving nature quickly landed her employment with Heritage 53 in Moline, Illinois, as a teacher for the handicapped. She retired in 1991 from Heritage 53 and was honored with an award in her name, "the Seydel Award", given to an employee who showed excellence. Joanne also had a deep passion for volunteer work, she started the Albany Ambulance service and ironically that service she started later saved her son's life after he experienced a near fatal car accident. She also started the Albany Rural Garbage Collection in the late 80's and was nominated as citizen of the year by WQAD. For eleven years she volunteered her time as a school bus dispatcher for the Rural Albany area. If an emergency occurred Joanne was ready to assist. She also took care of the elderly folks in her neighborhood and always willing to take care of the less fortunate. Joanne simply loved everyone, never judgmental and lovingly saw everyone the same way. Above all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Joanne is survived by one daughter - Saundra (Michael) Field of Fulton, IL.; one son - Kevin (Nancie) Seydel of Bettendorf, IA.; four grandchildren - Tara, Brandon, Kristen, Aaron; one great great grandchild - Kadence; one brother - Kenneth (Laurie) Whestine of San Antonio, TX., with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Joanne in death were her parents and her husband John.
