Obituary for JoAnn Lavonne ""Cookie"" Niebuhr (Hart)
On Wednesday, April 3, 2019 JoAnn Lavonne Niebuhr, 85, of Camanche, Iowa passed away peacefully at her Park Vista Retirement home with her loving niece, Joni M. Dolan, at her side and was lovingly welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services will take place at 12 pm on Saturday, April 6, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Dr.). A visitation will occur 1-hour prior from 11 am until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
JoAnn was born November 9, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Marvin and Marcella (Benlien) Hart. After acquiring her GED, she went on to receive her Bachelors Degree in Nursing and would follow that up with acquiring a Masters Degree, which enabled her to teach nursing.
JoAnn was united in marriage to Robert Niebuhr, they would later divorce. Later in life, she enjoyed a 25-year special friendship with Harry Kahler.
She was a member of the Lutheran faith.
For many years, JoAnn worked as a Nursing instructor at Clinton Community College. She also worked for the Visiting Nurses Association.
JoAnn enjoyed bicycling, hiking and camping. She also enjoyed eating cookies and was fondly remembered as “Cookie” by the Park Vista staff.
JoAnn is survived by her sons – Michael (Liz) Niebuhr and Robert Niebuhr both of Clinton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren with special niece – Krista (Jimmy) Driscoll of Fulton, Il and special nephew – Derrick Dolan of Clinton with other nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Preceding JoAnn in death were her parents, one son -Larry Niebuhr; two brothers – John D. Hart and Ronald Hart and special friend – Harry Kahler.
Memorials made can be directed to the Clinton Visiting Nurses Association or the Clinton Humane Society.
