Obituary for Jim Louis "Jimmy" Hardwick

Jim “Jimmy” Hardwick, 68, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center – North on Friday, February 15, 2019. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 22 at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Jimmy L. Hardwick born October 11th 1950 in Duck Hill Mississippi to Dorothy May Eskridge and Louis Wyatt Hardwick. Jimmy was proceeded and death by both parents. Jimmy was raised in Duck Hill, Mississippi by his Grandmother George Lula Grant Brady, (Madea) and Grandfather Floyd Lee Brady, (Daddy). Sister Jessie James Bowdry, and Brother Benny Hardwick.

As a child and through early adulthood, Jimmy grew up as a share cropper of cotton. He would often spend time with his special Uncle Joe Brady, of Gore Springs, Mississippi whom he visited annually. Jimmy relocated from Mississippi in 1970 after not being able to find stable employment in the south. His Step parents (Maud and Leatha James) found an employment opportunity for him at National by Products, 1423 Beaver Channel Parkway, Clinton, Iowa, which he would work and become the first African American foreman for the company. He retired after 30+ plus years of service.

Jimmy married Valerie R. Pompey in 1970 – She preceded him in death 1991.

Jimmy was an avid collector of many different things, from cameras and hats to cars and music collections of Joe Simon and Tyrone Davis. His life time pride and joy was a 1971 Dodge Barracuda that he bought and began restoring when he was 18 years old. Jimmy was certified as a Master Gardner, and enjoyed restoring hiding treasures. He will be missed for his gift of storytelling of life’s special moments, Jimmy never forgot anything, and for his passion for making the good times count.

Jimmy Married Wanda in 2000 after a long courtship, (No one brought the best out of Jimmy, as Wanda! “Thank you for being persistent about helping him live his best life”.
Together they enjoyed traveling and seeing the world together while being a part of their Children, Grandchildren, family and friends lives. (Protector and provider of family.) Provider of material items, as well of his personal time and perspective to make sure that life decisions were a little easier.

Jimmy was preceded in death by His parents – Dorothy and Louis Hardwick Both Maternal (George Lula Grant and Clinton Eskridge, Paternal Grand Parents Ade Hardwick, and Emma Dunn Hardwick, an infant son Jimmy Hardwick Jr, 2 Sisters, Jessie James Bowdry (His beloved older sister- whom he never left her side through life and her battle with lung cancer, until her Transition in 2013, Charlotte James, 2 brothers, Ricky Telethon, Robert James.

Jimmy is survived by his Loving and devoted Wife Wanda Hardwick of Clinton IA, 4 Daughters – Latasha Knox of Clinton Iowa, Crystal (Troy) Cameron Peoria- AZ, Rhonda Goettsch of Davenport IA, Coffy Perez of San Antonio TX, 2 sons-Christopher (Laurie) Wyatt, Iowa City, IA, and Patrick Wyatt of Indianapolis IN. 11 Grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren five brothers: Benny Hardwick of Clinton IA, Robert and Charles Telethon of Memphis Tenn, David (Melinda) James and Manuel James of Clinton IA; five sisters : Deloris, Helen James, Kathy (Joseph) Jackson of Clinton IA, Zelda (Eric) Collins of St, Paul MN, Maudie (Leon) Walton of Darien GA, A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and In-laws.
