James Henry Shields, Jr., 85, of Brazoria, TX., passed away September 22, 2011 at his step-daughter's home.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at The Church Of The Open Door, Clinton. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. until time of service also at the Church. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family.
James was born on August 7, 1926 in Carroll, Iowa , the son of James and Mildred (Butler) Shields, Sr.
James married Helen Dettman on August 15, 1948 in Sterling, Illinois. He later married Patricia Connelly on May 30, 1973.
He served The United States Navy, during WWII for 4 years.
He worked in maintenance at Clinton Corn for over 25 years.
James was a former member of The Church Of The Open Door, and the American Legion.
He loved the outdoors all year long in Texas, he loved 2 dogs, fishing in his pond, and caring for his homestead.
James is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Judith (Kevin Green) Graham of Clinton, Sherry Dunn, of Bettendorf, 2 sons, Terry (Penny) Shields, of Ottawa, Illinois, Larry (Monica) Shields of West Liberty, Iowa, 1 step-daughter, Ellen (Clarence) Kreneck, of Brazoria, Texas, many grandchildren, many great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Earl (Doris) Shields, of Albany, Gerald Shields, of Texas, and 2 sisters, Alice Martin of Bloomington, Indiana, and Loretta Felts, of Scottsdale, AZ.
James was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 1 brother.
