Obituary for James D. Allain
Funeral services for James D. Allain, 88, of Clinton, who passed away peacefully at his home on July 16, 2020, will be held at 1pm on Saturday, June 26, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Dr). The service will be live streamed on our Lemke Funeral Home Facebook Page. A visitation will be from 12pm until the service hour. Burial will immediately follow the service at Clinton Lawn Cemetery where military honors will be performed.
He was born September 4, 1931 in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Edward and Lorraine (Bleattler) Allain. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1949. Jim served as a Marine in the 3rd Marine Air Wing during the Korean conflict, working in the Meteorology section. He attended the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He married Marjorie MacKaben in 1957, and they had six children. He married Kay Clark in 1981. Jim was employed E.I. DuPont Co. in Clinton, Iowa, for twenty-four years as a Project & Senior Development Engineer with Clysar. Jim was accomplished in his field of engineering and earned his Professional Engineering license in 1970. In 1982 he transferred to Parkersburg, West Virginia, retiring in 1985. Jim and Kay moved to San Diego, California, where Jim was employed as the Chief Engineer with T-Systems Intl. for eleven years.
Jim’s hobbies included playing golf, home remodeling for family and friends, woodworking, and landscaping. He enjoyed building and built two homes, one in Clinton and one in San Diego. He loved the game of golf and played three times a week, shot even par 72 and claimed two hole-in-ones. Jim and Kay traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada visiting and hiking in National Parks. His favorite trips however, were to visit his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim and Kay returned to Clinton after twenty-five years in San Diego to live closer to their families.
Jim was a kind man, quiet, soft-spoken and had an amazing sense of humor. He will always be remembered for being the consummate gentleman.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Kay, children: David (Diane) of Stoughton, WI, Susan (Randy) Werner of Hudson, OH, Jeff (Gloria) of Great Falls, MT, Sara (Adam) Nowakowski of Blacklick, OH, Ann (Jim) Woodring of Pewaukee, WI. Sister: Delores Knight of Guthrie, OK. Stepsons: Steven Brown of Colorado and Brad Allain of Clinton. Ten grandchildren: Alyson (Dr. Philip) Zuzolo, Mackenzie (Liz) Starns, Courtney (Alan) Zedaker, Brandon Bell, Zach Parker, Jameson Parker, Xavier Nowakowski, Cassie Rowe, Cory Allain and Alan Frazier. Nine great-grandchildren: Nakiya, Archie and Abby Rowe, Caden and Savanna Bell, Jonathan, Ethan and Drew Zuzolo, and Sean Allain.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant daughter Mary, sister Marlene, brothers Bud and Jerry, and stepson Mark.
