Obituary for Irene Stahl

Irene Stahl, 87, of DeWitt, Iowa passed away peacefully at her home at Westwing Place on Monday, August 24, 2015. Honoring her wishes burial will be conducted privately at Clinton Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday, August 25. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Irene Almeda Hoist was born and raised in Maquoketa, Iowa on December 13, 1927. The daughter of Ernest and Mae (Batey) Hoist of 712 South 4th Street. Her siblings include four brothers, Albert, James Andrew, Elmer and Arnold with five sisters - Ernestine, Mereta, Mary Lou, Caroline Ann, and Irlene. Her mother also had one tubal pregnancy.
Irene cleaned houses on Saturdays while going to school for 25 cents an hour. She also worked at Clinton Engine and Fish-N-Tackle. After she was 17, she worked at the Maid Rite in Maquoketa and Bon Ton waiting on tables.
Irene met Alfred Stahl in 1945 and they were united in marriage in 1949. They retired from farming in 1987 and moved to DeWitt were they resided in town and later, in 2009, moved to Westwing Place.
Irene enjoyed crocheting and doing things for others. She volunteered to help with many activities at the Westwing Place in DeWitt.
Irene is survived by one daughter - Mary (John Costello) Kuehl of Clinton, IA.; two sons - William (Christina) Stahl of Urbana, IA. and Julian (Cathy) Stahl of DeWitt, IA.; four grandchildren - Michelle Turner of Iowa City, IA., Kyle Kuehl of Clinton, IA. and Julian and Harrison Stahl of DeWitt, IA. and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred, who passed on April 17, 2012, and one son - George Alfred Stahl.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made can be directed The American Diabetes Association in Irene's name.
