Obituary for Irene Foley

Irene Mae Thomas Foley, 89, of Clinton passed away Monday, August 01, 2011 at The Alverno. A mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5th, at Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.,Thursday , August 4th, at the Lemke Funeral Homes, North Chapel 2304 North 2nd Street, and from 10:30 until the service time on Friday at the church. Burial will take place in St. Ireanus Cemetery.
Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family.
Irene was born June 13, 1922, in Perry, Iowa the daughter of Roy F. and Florence (Tripp) Thomas. She graduated from Perry High School in 1940. Irene married John S. Foley, on November 8, 1945 at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa. John passed away in 2002. Irene worked for the Clinton Garment Factory for 6 years, and retired from Nielsen Clearing House after 20 years.
Irene was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, 2nd Armored Division Association, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, National Association of Retired Veteran Railroad Employees Unit # 67, Woman of The Moose # 474, and Irene was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years.
Irene enjoyed traveling with her husband, and camping all over The United States. She enjoyed playing cards; birds and nature, and meeting and talking with people. Her special loves were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include 1 daughter Ann (Warren) Winter, of Sterling, Illinois, 4 sons, William (Nancy) Foley, of Clinton, Iowa , James (Terry) Foley, of Fleming Island, Florida, Michael (Rita) Foley, of Nevada, Iowa, Dan (Tricia) Foley, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, 7 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 5 step-grandsons, 5 great-grandsons, 6 great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister and 1 brother
Memorials can be left with the Clinton Catholic Historical Center.
