Hertis Davis, Sr., 80, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at home on Thursday, September 6, 2018. A funeral service will occur at 12 pm on Saturday, September 15, at the Greater True Love Baptist Church. A visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Friday, September 14, at the Greater True Love Baptist Church. An additional visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Hertis was born April 20, 1938 in Hammond, Louisiana, the son of Lionel and Dora (Garant) Davis. Hertis was united in marriage to Faye Myles on April 18, 1959 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

Hertis was a Machine Operator at Ralston Purina retiring after 21 years.

Hertis’ main priority in life was serving his Lord and Savior. He was a long-time member of the 2nd Baptist Church and would later assist his brother, the Reverend Lionel Davis Sr., as a Deacon, at the Greater True Love Baptist Church for 8 years. Hertis took great joy in spreading God’s word and enjoyed reading and studying the Bible.

When time permitted, he enjoyed fishing and loved to socialize with family and friends.

Hertis is survived by his wife Faye of Clinton, IA; 1 daughter – Cynthia (Gregory) Dingle of Baltimore, MD; 2 sons – Ivory (Cammy) Davis of Davenport, IA and Hertis (Lisa) Davis of Fulton, Il; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 1 sister – Clara Spears of LA; with many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Preceding Hertis in death are his parents, son Anthony Davis; 2 sister – Juanita and Dora; 3 brothers – Rev. Lionel, Ulysses, Ivory;
