Obituary for Herbert Amey

Herbert "Herb" E. Amey, 90, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at his home on October 12, 2013. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a grave side service to take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Herbert was born September 28, 1923 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Matthew and Leah (Cronister) Amey. Herbert attended Clinton High School, however before graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy and also served in the United State Marine Corp during WWII, a combined service of twelve years. While in the service he finished his high school degree.
He was united in marriage to Catherine Mitchell on April 14, 1960 in Thomson, Illinois.

Herb retired from DuPont's in 1979 after 30 years as an operator.
Herbert was a lifetime member of the Amvets Post 28, past member and commander of the Humphrey Paulsen V.F.W., a member of the American Legion, past member, commander and "man of the year" of the Sun City West Lions Club, a life time member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and a past member of the Eagles Club.
Herb loved fishing, dancing and was known for playing spoons. He also enjoyed working with wood and carpentry.
Herbert is survived by his wife Catherine of Clinton, IA.; two daughters - Sharon (Scott) Zealley from Peoria, AZ., Linda (Ken) Holley from South Amherst, OH.; nine grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; two sisters - Phyllis Hanus and Ella Witt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
