Obituary for Harry D. Rieger

Harry D. Rieger, 85, of Goose Lake, Iowa passed away at Mercy Living Center – North on Thursday, August 24, 2017. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 28, at 5:00 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will occur two hours prior to the funeral service from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Harry was born June 30, 1932 in Hosmer South Dakota, the son of August and Magdelina (Goehring) Rieger. Harry was united in marriage to Laverna Lucille Aman on June 10, 1956 in Hosmer, South Dakota – Laverna passed in 2013.
Harry farmed for 14 years, then in 1970, he and his wife moved to town and he began his career at Ralston Purina – retiring after 25 years.
Harry was a past member of the Moose Club and the II Car club. He loved watching sports and was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and participating in his Car club. In his early years he was an avid bowler. Harry was proud of his elaborate collection of beer steins and shot glasses. He enjoyed keeping in shape – running, walking and lifting weights. He loved the many animals he had throughout his life. Above all, he loved his family very much and will be sadly missed.
Harry is survived by his two daughters - Cindy (Dean) Bartels of Charlotte, IA and Robin (Charles Kness) Rieger of Camanche, IA; one son - Steve (Theresa) Rieger of Andover, IA; one brother – Leven (Gladys) Rieger of Eureka, S.D.; one sister in-law – Betty (Milton) Mohr of Hosmer, S.D.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Harry in death were his parents, his wife one sister.
