Obituary for Harry John "John" Goddard

Harry John Goddard, 76, of Clinton, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a celebration of his life and burial at Clinton Lawn Cemetery taking place at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Known by all as John, he was born September 30, 1943 in Clinton, the son of Harold and Rebecca “Becky” (Stratton) Goddard. He was a 1962 graduate of Clinton High School. He would later acquire an Associates of Arts Degree from Clinton Community College.

John was as a State of Iowa licensed Land Surveyor working with a local Clinton firm for 40+ years. John was a life-time member of the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa and also a past member of the Clinton Eagles Club.

John was a skilled and avid bowler – he was inducted into the Clinton Iowa Bowlers Hall of Fame; was recognized as scoring several 700 games; during the annual “Brother’s Tournament”, John and his brother Ed frequently advanced to the National Brothers play held in Peoria, Ill. John also enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed socializing with friends and family – he enjoyed chatting about all the kids in the Goddard family. Above all, he loved his children very much and will be sadly missed.

John is survived by his children - Michele (Andrew) Edwins of Minneapolis MN, Keli (Nate) Onken of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sean Goddard (U.S.A.F.) of Minot, ND and Jacob Kruse of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren – Maggie, Kaleb and Coen; sister - Linda Ferguson of Clinton; brother - Ed (Donna) Goddard of Clinton; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Preceding John in death were his parents, aunts, uncles and cousin.
