Obituary for GV James

GV James, 68, resided in Tucson, Arizona and formerly of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama after a brief stay with his loved ones on December 15, 2016. Funeral Services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, at Bethel AME Church, Clinton. A visitation will occur from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the Church. Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
GV James was born on March 29, 1948 in Parkin, Arkansas to Earlean and GV James Sr. He was a 1966 Clinton High School graduate and went on to Clinton Community College and later transferred on a football scholarship to Western Illinois University where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree to become a first-generation college graduate. He was an All-American athlete in football, basketball, baseball, and softball. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church of Tucson Arizona. He loved his family and friends and made sure he kept close contact with all of them. Family meant everything to him and he made everyone feel welcome. He was also extremely passionate about, sports (dem cowboys), women, talking on the phone, popcorn, chicken, young and the restless and cognac.
GV is survived by his three sons - Jermaine James, Madison, WI; Reggie Bond, St. Louis, MO; Alex McCorkle, Davenport, IA; six daughters - Sharon &Shirley James, Dallas, TX; Pasha James, Jackson, MS; Kenya Newell, Birmingham, AL; Shutoni James, Madison, WI; and Rashida James, Atlanta, GA; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters - Joella Philpott, Almeta Ammons, Bertha (Jesse) Guidry; and two brothers - Rufus James and James Broughton. Special Friends; Karen James, Linda Herron, Sadie Newell, and Clidie Gause along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister - Almira Early, one brother - Calvin Weaver, and one daughter - GiVi James.
