Obituary for Gertraud C. L. "Trudi" Ewing (Erber)

Gertraud “Trudi” C.L Ewing, 84, of DeWitt, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 21, 2021. Funeral services take place at 12 pm on Monday, January 25, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Dr.). A visitation occurs one hour prior from 11 am until the service hour at the Funeral Home. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Trudi was born January 24, 1936 in Nuremburg, Germany, the daughter of Adam and Marqarete (Dachert) Erber. She was united in marriage to Peter Henry Anderson in November 1958 - they would later divorce. She married Donnie Ewing in July 1984 - they would also divorce.

Trudi was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton. She was a House Keeper at the Guest House Inn, then worked as a nurse’s aide at the Alverno and finally concluded her career at Hy-Vee. She was a devoted and loving housewife who loved her children dearly.

She and her family moved from Germany to the States in 1960. She enjoyed bowling, especially league bowling. She also enjoyed dancing and playing cards and Bingo. She loved listening to German music and loved her weekly telephone chats with her sisters in Germany. Above all she loved spending time with her family, especially the great grandchildren.

Trudi is survived by two sons - James (Kim) Anderson and Gerald (Karla) Anderson both of Clinton, one daughter – Christine (Paul) Green of DeWitt, two sisters – Christa Hosch and Elqard Wicklein, both of Germany, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with many nieces, ephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son – Bernard J. Erber.
