George J. Melvin, 79, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 5, 2015. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with no planned services. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
George was born April 3, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa the son of George and Mary (Hernandez) Melvin. He was a 1958 graduate of Clinton High School.
He worked for many years at Union Carbide and then at Agri-King as a soil testing technician.
George enjoyed watching TV, listening to gospel music, traveling and writing poems and short stories.
George is survived by one daughter - Janice (Paul) Vanderstreak of Pella, IA; one son - James (Chris) Melvin of Ankeny, IA.; one granddaughter, four grandsons and four great-grandchildren; four sisters; one brother and very special friend and companion Betty Bauer of Clinton, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
