He was born August 24th, 1928, on his family's farm near Garnavillo, Iowa, and was the son of George A. and Teresa (Burr) Heck. George interrupted his high school and later his college education to run the family farm and to serve in the US Army 4th armored division. George impacted a generation of students in his 31 years of teaching, which included 27 years as a math teacher at Potosi High School.
When he wasn't at school, George loved music, fishing on the Mississippi, hunting and playing cards with friends and family. He had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.
George married the love of his life, Lila Murphy in 1955. Their family includes son, Bill (Lori) Heck and granddaughters, Melissa, Colleen, Jennifer and Rachael; daughter, Rose (Dan) McEleney and grandsons, Patrick, Mark, Stephen and Sam; daughter, Mary Ann (Phil) Stroud, and grandchildren, Katie (Matt) Majarian, Sophia, Gina and David Stroud; brother Loras and sister-in-laws, Leona Leighton and Aleatha Kadinger.
George is preceded in death by Lila, his grandson Michael and his siblings Lolita Junk and John Heck.
