Garnet E. Eggers, 94, of Miles, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa, on Sunday, August 27, 2017. A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, at the Andover Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Garnet was born October 5, 1922 in Andover, Iowa, the son of Edward and Henrietta (Huebner) Eggers. He was united in marriage to Elsie Lawrence on February 14, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa.
Garnet was on the Miles Cooperative Telephone Board of Directors for 40 years. He was a lifelong and charter member of the Izaak Walton League.
In addition to farming all of his life, Garnet also owned and operated "Huebner's Garage" for 20 years, as well as, operating "Eggers General Store" with his wife in Teeds Grove, Iowa.
He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed playing Euchre and other card games with family and friends.
Garnet is survived by his four sons – Gary (Prakong) Eggers of Prescott Valley, AZ, Darrell (Fran) Eggers of Hauntown, IA, Gene Eggers of Sabula, IA and Allen Eggers of Sabula, IA; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters – Gloria Jepsen of Clinton, IA and Mary Siebels of Monticello, IA; one brother – Russell (Janet) Eggers of Savanna, IL; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Garnet in death were his parents, his wife and one son – Duane.
