Francis Robert Bartels, 83, of Clinton passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North Campus on December 22nd, 2012. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 29th, at the Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Church, Clinton, Iowa. A visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the funeral mass at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Saint Boniface Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Francis was born on July 9th, 1929 in Charlotte, Iowa, the son of Frank and Ida (Stender) Bartels.
He joined the United States Navy serving in the Korean War from 1948 to 1952.
Francis was united in marriage to Jeanette Roling on June 18th, 1955.
Francis was a member of the Knights of Columbus, AMVETS Post 28, and Prince of Peace Church.
He worked in the maintenance department at DuPont's retiring in 1983 after thirty plus years.
Francis enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He incorporated his artistic talent into his wood working projects. Francis loved his family especially his grandchildren; he was a special man that will be greatly missed.
Francis is survived by two sons - Gary Bartels of Clinton, IA., Larry Bartels of Waukesha, Wisconsin; five grand children - Jessica, Jason, Nathan, Kelsey, Ian and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter in-law and his special friend Ambrose Roling.
Memorials preferred to Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Church.
