Obituary for Evelyn L. Kraft (Hilsinger)

Evelyn L. Kraft, 88, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals on Friday, September 6, 2019. Funeral services will take place at 1 pm on Wednesday, September 11, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. A visitation will occur 2 hours prior from 11 am until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Evelyn was born December 24, 1930 in Fulton, Illinois the daughter of William and Tena (Tegeler) Hilsinger. She was a graduate of Lyon’s High School. Evelyn was united in marriage to John J. Kraft on November 30, 1947 in Camanche, Iowa.

Evelyn worked at Nielsen’s Clearing House for many years.

She enjoyed and was very proficient at working intricate jig-saw puzzles. She also enjoyed reading. She loved bargain shopping at the local Thrift stores. She loved following her favorite NASCAR race car driver - Jeff Gordon. Evelyn wasn’t afraid to grab a hammer, screwdriver or any tool to fix things in her house or a neighbor’s – she thought she was a skilled craftsperson. She enjoyed sewing and hemmed in clothes for her grandsons, slip covers for her granddaughters and curtains for her friends. She also loved light houses and anything regarding Western’s especially Longmire. She loved County Western music especially Ray Price “For the good times”. She had many flowers around her house and enjoyed them greatly. She also enjoyed her monthly luncheons with the Nielsen Ladies. Above all, she loved her entire family very much especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be sadly missed.

Evelyn is survived by her children - Michael (Sandra) Kraft of Melbourne, FL, John P. Kraft of Clinton, IA, Kathleen (Jay) Harbron of Fulton, IL, Jennifer (Steve) Swick of Belvidere, Il; Daughter in-law Barbara (Jerry) Brown of Clinton, IA; with nine grandchildren, eighteen great grand-children, one great-great grandson; two brothers and one sister; special sister in-law Jean and special brother in-law Bill, one aunt – Ruth “Punky”, with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents, husband, one son – Daniel, one daughter – Lisa, two granddaughters – Erin and Christa and one grandson – Michael and two brothers - John and Frank, two sisters – Betty and Mary Jane.
