Obituary for Eugene LeRoy Nielsen
Eugene “Gene” Leroy Nielsen, 91, formerly of Clinton, passed away in Florence, Montana on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Graveside services will take place at 12 pm on Thursday, May 23, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will occur from 11 am to 12 pm on Thursday, May 23, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Gene was born March 7, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Robert and Alice (DeLoe) Nielsen. In order to support his family, Gene quit school, at 16, and started working at Clinton Corn Processing Plant. While there, Gene would become a skilled Journeyman Electrician, staying at the same Clinton Plant, he would eventually retire with ADM Construction following a total of 50+ years.
Gene served his Country in the United States Army - a veteran of the Korean War.
Gene was united in marriage to Patricia Paup on August 26, 1950 in Clinton, Iowa.
Gene loved the outdoors especially camping, fishing and hunting. Later in life he enjoyed playing golf. He was a dedicated husband and father, taking care of his wife when she became ill and caring for his family. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.
Gene is survived by his children – Nancy Nielsen of Clinton, IA and Tim (Mary) Nielsen of Florence, MT; 3 grandchildren –Becky (Kris) Thayer, Brad (Tiffany) Nielsen and Ashleigh (Kevin) Nielsen; one sister in-law – Ruth Nielsen of Clinton, IA
Preceding Gene in death were his parents and three brothers.
