Eugene Babers, 74, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at ManorCare Health Services, Davenport, Iowa on Monday, January 8, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will occur two hours prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service with burial at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Eugen was born June 27, 1943 in Jackson, Mississippi, the son of Dan and Isabelle (Moore) Babers.
He was a member of the Bethel AME Church in Clinton.
Eugene was a car mechanic and also drove a truck for many years.
Eugene loved cars both driving (fast cars) and also working on cars. He loved listening to Gospel music. He was very much dedicated to his faith. He did all he could to provide for his family. Above all, he loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren.
Eugene is survived by his long-time girlfriend – Rhonda Owens of Clinton, IA; his seventeen children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one sister – Erma Jean Babers of Davenport, IA; two brothers – Dan (Minnie) Babers of Rock Island, Il and Charlie (Juanita) Babers of Milan, Il; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Eugene in death were his parents, one daughter – Ashley, four sisters and five brothers.
