Obituary for Essie Mae Hodges (Mickens)

Essie Mae Hodges, 81, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 15, 2019. Funeral services will take place at 11 am on Saturday, February 23, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, Clinton. A visitation will occur 1-hour prior from 10 am until the service hour on Saturday at the Church. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Essie was born January 14, 1938 in Forest City, Arkansas the daughter of Ressie and Etta (Terry) Mickens. She was united in marriage to Ed Hodges on April 14, 1958 in Forest City.

Essie was a long-time member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Clinton.

Essie loved to socialize with family and friends and enjoyed traveling. She loved her Church and Church Family. Above all, she loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. She will be will be sadly missed.

Essie is survived by her three daughters – Mary (Keifer) Burrage and Rosette (Winfred) Davis both of Clinton and Lillie (Jason) Troyna of New Hampton, IA; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; 4 sisters; 2 brothers; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding Essie in death were her parents, her husband Ed; her son Charles; 3 sister and 3 brothers.
