Eleanor Elizabeth Kurtz, 90, of Clinton, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Funeral services occur at 1 pm on Saturday, January 14, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. A visitation occurs 2 hours prior, from 11 am until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Eleanor was born December 18, 1932 in DeWitt, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Alta (Vaughn) Griep. Eleanor was a member of the First Congregational Church in Clinton and was united in marriage to James “Jim” Kurtz, at the church, on September 23, 1962.
Eleanor grew up in rural Clinton County and attended school in a one room school house until 8th grade. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1950 and then graduated from the Jane Lamb Hospital nurses training program in 1952. As a registered nurse she worked with Dr. Wagner and Dr. Barrent. She enjoyed gardening; always planting and harvesting for herself and others. For many years she and Jim delivered Meals on Wheels throughout the Clinton area. She loved the outdoors, traveling and spending time with family. She was involved with the farming and operation of the family farm her entire life. She will be incredibly missed by family and friends.
Eleanor is survived by three children - Vickie Jacobsen of Anamosa, IA, Brenda (Erik) Sjoblom of State Center, IA and Kevin (Bridget) Kurtz of Clinton, IA; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; with several, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband - James and two brothers - Thomas Griep and Jerry Griep.
