Obituary for Dorothy F. Burmeister

Dorothy F. Burmeister, 81, of Miles, Iowa passed away at Hope Creek Nursing Home, East Moline, Illinois on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 manufacturing drive). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service with burial at a later date at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy was born December 30, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Erland and Frances (Larson) Olson. She was a 1953 graduate of Moline High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne Burmeister on May 10, 1959 in Moline, Illinois - they were together in marriage for nearly fifty five years until his passing on January 29, 2014.
Dorothy began her career working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. in both the Navy and Army Departments. She then relocated back to Moline, Illinois and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as a Stock Control Clerk. In 1972, Dorothy, along with her husband, owned and operated the Miles Locker Service where she worked for many years.
Dorothy was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa. She was also a member of the women's Bible study at St. John's.
She enjoyed spending time in her garden, tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed sewing and was a faithful listener to her favorite radio programs on WDLM. She also loved spending time reading her Bible.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters - Nancy (Tony) Cram of Teeds Grove, IA. and Judy (Lee) Bughman of Moline, IL.; three grandchildren - Darrell Cram of Clinton, IA, Cory (Jessica) Cram of Andover, IA and Bradley Bughman of Moline, Ill; three great-grandchildren - Makyla, Maleah and Louis Cram at home; one sister - Carol Larson of Davenport, IA; with many nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, her husband Wayne and several aunts and uncles.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
