Dorance Charles Cox, 85, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at home on Monday, October 15, 2018.
Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11 am on Friday, October 19, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A visitation will take place 2 hours prior to the Funeral Mass, from 9 am until the time of the Funeral Mass, at the Church. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Bloom, Tom Cannon, Clay Ericksen, Earl Farrell, Tom Swamberger, Pat Matheny, Al DeBoe and Jack Merdian. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dorance was born June 1, 1933 Dubuque, Iowa the son of Dorance and Louise (Hilkin) Cox. He was a graduate of Loras Academy. Following High School, he joined the United States Army. Dorance was united in marriage to Mary Lu Campbell in January 1953 in Dubuque – Mary Lu passed away in August 1997. Dorance then married Geraldine “Jerry” Wenzel on October 5, 1998 in Clinton.

Dorance started his career with International Harvester, then worked at the Clinton Bickelhaupt Motor Company for 14 years and finally retiring from Sethness Company in the 90’s. He was also part owner of Warren’s Tap in Clinton.

Dorance was a member of Sacred Heart Church then Prince of Peace Parish. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus – achieving a 4th degree as well as the Grand Knight. He was also a member of the AMVETS.

He enjoyed spending his time golfing and enjoyed the outdoors especially working in his yard. He enjoyed his every other week card games with his friends. He was a loyal crossing guard with the Clinton Community School System for over 10 years. Dorance was passionate about serving others and always seeing the good in life. Above all, he loved his family very much, a true family man, and will be greatly missed.

Dorance is survived by his wife Jerry of Clinton, IA; one daughter - Vicki Judge of DeWitt; two sons – Tom (Caryl) Cox of Omaha, NE and Dan Cox of Colorado Springs, CO; his step children – Ron (Darla) Wenzel of Davenport, Don (Mary) Wenzel of Bettendorf, Julie (Jeff) Eggers of Clinton, Jill (Tom) Brodersen of Clinton, Jack (Paula) Wenzel of Clinton, Joe (Shannon) Wenzel of Ohio, Teresa (Doug) Yegge of Clinton, Tim Wenzel of Clinton and Scott Wenzel of Clinton with many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers – Bill Cox of Dubuque and David (Julie) Cox of Dubuque; with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Preceding Dorance in death were his parents, his first wife – Mary Lu.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made can be directed to the Make a Wish Foundation in Dorance’s name.
