Donaldina Sobers, 93, of Clinton, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center - South. Honoring her final wish, cremation rites will be accorded with no services. Burial will take place at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Donaldina was born March 20, 1921 in Glasgow, Scotland the daughter of Donald and Jean (Boyd) Walker. Donaldina served her Country during WWII in the National Fire Service as a dispatcher who communicated incoming air raids. It was during this period that she met Charles Sobers and they would eventually be united in marriage in Sheffield, England on June 25, 1945. Following WWII they moved to Clinton, Iowa where she raised her children and was a homemaker.
Donaldina enjoyed painting and artwork. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting and working cross word puzzles. Following her husband's retirement the two enjoyed traveling across the country in their mobile home where they would often spend the winter months in California. Above all she loved her children very much.
Donaldina is survived by two daughters - Jeanora (Larry) Petersen of Clinton, IA., Lisa Disch of Roscoe, IL.; five grandchildren - Kelley (Mike) Dodd of Clinton, IA., Sarah Melvin of Clinton, IA., CJ (Chelsea) Murdock of Clinton, IA., Jason Henthorn of Beloit, WI., Brooke Henthorn of Roscoe, IL.; several great grandchildren; two nephews; two brothers - Donald (Ann) Walker of Austin, TX., Alan (Bonnie) Walker of Blue Springs, MO. and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband- Charles, one daughter - Donna Burn, one sister and one brother.
