Obituary for Donald D. Waddell

Donald D. Waddell, 84, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with a gathering of family and friends celebrating his life taking place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. AMVETS Post 28 will conduct Military Honors at 4:00 p.m. Private burial will take place at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Donald was born September 12, 1932 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Harry and Marjorie (Woods) Waddell. He was a graduate of Emerson High School in Emerson, Iowa. Donald served in the U.S. Marines from 1951 to 1954 - a veteran of the Korean War. Donald was united in marriage to Madonna McKenna on June 11, 1955 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clinton.
Donald was a past member of St. Patrick's/Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He worked at Standard Brands/Nabisco/ADM as an operator in the Starch building, retiring in 1994 after 40 years.
Donald was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved watching the Cubs win the World Series. He was also a Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeye's fan. He enjoyed being outside, especially gardening and enjoyed his weekly trip to "donate" to the Casino. He was very proud to fly the American flag in his yard and was very happy to participate in the 2013 Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
Donald is survived by his wife Madonna of Clinton, IA; two daughters - Pamela (Bill) Copeland of Clinton, IA and Karla (Brian Martens)Taylor of Camanche, IA; one daughter in-law- Melissa Waddell of Clinton, IA; one brother - William "Buzz" (Patricia) Waddell of Clinton, IA; fourteen grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Donald in death were his parents, two sisters - Carolyn and Nancy and one son - Todd.
