Obituary for Donald "Don" Conway
Donald "Don" Thomas Conway, 83, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter Jill, in Clinton, Iowa on Thursday, May 18, 2017. Honoring his final request, his body was deeded to the University of Nebraska School of Medicine at Omaha. A celebration of his life will take place, with family receiving relatives and friends, on Saturday, May 27, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 1 in Omaha, Nebraska (7811 Davenport Street, Omaha NE). Burial will be at a later date at the Omaha National Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Donald was born July 19, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Guy and Mildred (Floen) Conway – the youngest of six. He was a graduate of South High School in Omaha.
Don served his country in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. Don was a member of American Legion Post 1, in Omaha, however throughout the years, he was a member of or participated in many military organizations, including volunteering at the Nebraska Veteran Administration. He was proud of his military service.
Don was a Machine Tool Salesman for over 45 years. Following retirement, he worked for Big Red Keno and was affectionately known as "Keno Don".
Don faithfully watched or followed anything "Big Red", especially Nebraska Corn Husker football. He enjoyed painting and photography and he loved travelling and seeing friends. Above all, he loved his family and friends very much and will be sadly missed by all those that knew him.
Don is survived by his daughter Dr. Jill (Jay) Johnson of Clinton, IA; one granddaughter – Madeline Bruce of Fulton, IL; one grandson – Jacob Bruce of Minneapolis, MN; one great grandson – Zander at home; two sisters – Betty Velasquez and Marge Kaminski both of Omaha, NE; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Don in death were his parents and three brothers and one brother in-law.
