Obituary for Dolores Simmons

Dolores Ann Simmons, 84, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully on August 18, 2014 at Mercy Living Center - North. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive - west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery), additionally, a one hour visitation will take place at 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Thursday at the Church. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dolores was born May 10, 1930 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Thomas and Angeline (Tigges) Leonard. She was a 1948 graduate of Clinton High School. Following high school, she attended Burlington Nurses School, Burlington, Iowa, graduating on September 4, 1951 with a registered nurse license. Dolores was united in marriage to Frank Simmons on May 21, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Clinton.
Dolores was a member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church as well as a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton.
Dolores worked at Mercy Medical Center for many years as a registered nurse. Helping those in need as a nurse didn't stop there, Dolores also volunteered her time to various Parkinson's organizations.
Dolores enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing bingo and loved playing the organ. She was a "saint" a name that was fondly given to her by a Bishop and a Monsignor for her kind heart and selfless giving of those in need. Above all she loved her family dearly and will be sadly missed by her family and all those who knew her.
Dolores is survived by four daughters - Debra Roesger of Navarre, FL., Donna (Mike) Lueders of Clinton, IA., Brenda (Dean) Merrill of Clinton, IA., Mary Simmons of Omaha, NE.; four sons- Steve (Lois) Simmons of Chester, VA., Jim Simmons of Canon, CO., Bruce (Susan) Simmons of DeWitt, IA., Frank (Michaela) Simmons of Beaumont, CA.; twenty grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; three sisters - Bernice Schluns, Kathleen Clouse and Marion Spooner all of Clinton IA. with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dolores in death were her parents, her husband Frank, one son - Dennis, one daughter - Diane, one grandson - John, one great granddaughter- Kayla and three brothers.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
