Dessa was born October 31, 1936 in LaGrange, Georgia, the daughter of Grover H. and Blanche (Cook) Watts. She was a 1955 graduate of LaGrange High School. Following High School, she was awarded a scholarship for Nursing to Grady Memorial Hospital in Georgia, where she received her RN certification. Dessa was very proud to be the first member of her family to receive both a High School and College Degree.

Dessa was united in marriage to James Borota on June 6, 1959 in Mesa, Arizona.

She was a past member of the Gateway Baptist Church in Clinton.

Dessa loved reading the Bible and attending Bible studies. She enjoyed watching birds at the feeder and loved the challenge of working table sized puzzles. At the end of the day, however, Dessa was content with being a loving wife and mother and always kept up with the family over the years through numerous phone calls or sending loving cards on special days. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Dessa is survived by her daughter – Susan (Thomas) Lyons of Camanche, IA; four sons – James Jr. (Kay) Borota of Long Grove, IA, John Borota of Lanark, IL, Brian (Shelly) Borota of DeWitt, IA and Matthew (Christa) Borota of Oak Ridge, NC, 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren (with three more on-the-way), one Sister-in-Law – Joan Borota of Clinton, IA and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Borota, Sr. and a special cousin, Judy.

Memorials will be directed to the Clinton Community College’s Nursing Program.
