Obituary for Dean Donivan Hackney

Dean Donivan Hackney, 82, of Camanche, Iowa passed away at the Alverno on Monday, November 26, 2018. Funeral Services will take place at 11 am on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A Visitation will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, December 2 at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Dean was born July 8, 1936 in Dows, Iowa the son of Lindsey and Tiny (La Rue) Hackney. He was a graduate of Moline High School and attended Clinton Community College. Dean was united in marriage to Mary Thomas on February 14, 1982, in Clinton.

Dean was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Clinton, as well as, a member of the fraternal order of Freemasonry, where he was a Master Mason. He was also a member of the Moose Club.

Dean retired from ADM following 40+ years as the Superintendent of the Utilities Department. While there, he also traveled overseas assisting in Plant start-ups.

Dean enjoyed old cars, woodworking and loved being outdoors whether it was boating or just working outside the farm. He also enjoyed traveling and vacationing, especially to Arizona and later to Florida. Above all, he loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dean is survived by his wife Mary of Camanche, IA; son Jeff (Theresa) Hackney of Camanche, IA; daughter – Susan (Dan) Knuth of Oconomowoc, WI; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters – Juanita (Robert) Brissey of Dubuque, IA, Joy (David) McCulla of Cedar Rapids, IA and Tina (Randy) Roling of Miles, IA; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Preceding Dean in death were his parents, brother - Joe and grandchild – Jeramy.
