Obituary for Daniel J. David Sr.

Daniel J. David Sr. of Clinton, Iowa died on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at the Alverno Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Daniel was born in Clinton, IA in 1925 the son of John and Victoria (Lup) David from Satu Mari Romania. He graduated from St. Mary High School in 1945. He served in the US Navy from 1944-46 as a Seaman First Class. He drove an APA landing craft in the Pacific Theater, receiving several ribbons in the service of his County. His love of dancing was an important part of his life and was how he met his future wife Charlotte Hunter in 1948. Dan and Charlotte were married on April 21, 1949.
After returning from the service Dan worked at Interstate Power Company and later, C&NW Railroad and DuPont. He was owner-operator of David Electric for 18 years. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1986. He was president of the first Parish Council of Sacred Heart Parish and President of the Holy Name Society. Dan was a member of the Blue Army of the Blessed Virgin Mary and for 18 years devoted his time to making the statue of Mary available to families who shared this devotion. He was also a member of Our Lady Who Helps prayer group.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus - Loras 4th Degree, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Rock Falls Barbershop Chorus. Dan loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and took great pride in passing on to them the Romanian customs he loved. He was also an avid Chicago Cub and Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed reading and cribbage.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, both brothers and his only sister, his daughter Victoria Crider and grandson Chad Bickford. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, children Dan (Judy) David Jr, of Moline Illinois, Connie David of Minneapolis, MN, Theresa (Scott) Bickford of Clinton, Kathy Peters of Clinton, James David of DeWitt, and Becky David of Davenport, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 703 12th Ave Fulton, Illinois with a Funeral Mass immediately following the visitation. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
