Dale was born on November 29, 1914 in Okalona, MS. His parents, Henry and Clara Lenz lived there until March of 1915, when they moved back to Iowa.
Dale attended school in various Iowa towns, graduating in Nora Springs, IA in 1931. After graduation, Dale drove out to Montana to join his brother Jack to work on the pipeline. When that ended, Dale moved back to Iowa where he worked on a farm, eventually working on a farm near Low Moor, IA where he met his future wife, Helen Luse. After working in that area for about six years, Dale's brother Clifton helped him rent a farm near Rudd, IA. He then married Helen on May 26, 1940. A daughter, Clara Ann was born to Dale and Helen on June 9, 1941.
After three years on the Rudd farm, Dale bought the farm near Rolfe, IA where they lived for nearly 57 years.
Dale retired in the fall of 1976, and enjoyed life traveling around the country. In 1997, Dale and Helen moved to California into a trailer park in Gardena. Following a broken hip in 2010, Dale and Helen moved into the Sunrise Assisted Living home, where Dale died on June 27, 2012.
Dale is survived by his wife Helen, his daughter Ann Zimmerli, two granddaughters, Tanya Zimmerli and Christina Libertini, and a great grandson Matthias Libertini.
