Christine Riojas, 77, of Clinton followed her husband, of 59 years, home to our Lord just 47 days later on September 9th, 2012. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12th, at the Church of the Open Door, Clinton, Iowa. A visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11th, at the Church of the Open Door. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Ethan Riojas, Aaron Riojas, Ian Kline, Ben Kline, David Kuglar, Little Gabe Riojas. Honorary Pall bearers will be Joshua McGrath and Jalen Smith. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Christine was born on May 9th, 1935, in McAllen, Texas, the daughter of Daniel and Pola (De La Garza) Saenz. On July 24th, 1953 she married Louis Riojas in McAllen, Texas.
Christine was a homemaker and a bi-lingual teacher. Christine was a past member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Savanna, Illinois and currently a member of the Church of the Open Door, Clinton. Christine was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi- an International Women's friendship network. Above all, Christine loved her family and spending time with them -she was also a great cook.
Christine is survived by two daughters - Linda (John) Kugler of La Crosse, WI., Diana (Brian) McGrath of La Crosse, WI.; six sons - Steven (Sue) Riojas of Clinton, IA., David (Kelly) Riojas of Plainfield, IL., Richard (Becky) Riojas of Dixon, IL., Michael Riojas of Clinton, IA., Luis Riojas of Bettendorf, IA., Gabriel (Tamara) Riojas of Clinton, IA.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother Thomas (Emily) Saenz of Savanna, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Louis (passed away July 24th, 2012) and one brother.
