Obituary for Charles Gibson

Charles Richard Gibson, 84, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center - North Campus, on May 20th, 2012. Cremation rights have been accorded and a graveside service will occur at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25 at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charles was born on February 15th, 1928 in Muscatine, IA, the son of Hiram and Emma (Schutz) Gibson. Charles graduated from Preston High School; he also graduated from Coyne Electrical School, Coyne Refrigeration School, San Diego Fleet Wide Engineering School and ICS school of Stationary Engineering.
In 1949 Charles married Carol Harms in Camanche, they later divorced. In 1969 he married Barb Carlson in Clinton, they also divorced. He later married Betty Warren in 1974 in Davenport.
He was honored to serve his County in the Navy, a veteran of WWII. During that time he was the lead Electrician on two ships in the South Pacific.
Other accomplishments include owning and operating Gibson Heating, Electrical and Plumbing, owning and managing five rental properties and retiring from DuPont's after 38 years as the Supervisor of the Power House. Charles was a member of the Moose (past Vice President), the American Legion, the VFW, and the +60 club. He was also a 32° Mason.
Charles loved life and enjoyed water skiing, bowling, hunting, fishing and playing cards. He also loved dancing in night clubs.
Charles is survived by his wife Betty of Davenport; three daughters - Charlotte Gibson of Muscatine, IA, Connie (Dennis) Brady of Green River, WY, Nannette Gibson of Donnelly ID; one granddaughter - Chelsie Brady; four grandsons - Zach Strange, Travis Strange, Zeb Strange, Theron Strang; 16 great grandchildren, one niece - Karen Fitzgerald; two step daughters - Sharon (Jurren) Dirksen, Shirley (DeWayne) Moore; three step grandchildren, 4 great step grandchildren and one great great step granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great granddaughter - Grace Lynn and one sister - Evelyn Macke.
