Charleen V. Smith, 85 of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North on March 18, 2015. Honoring her final instructions cremation rites have been accorded with a Memorial service taking place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charleen was born May 26, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Howard and Mildred (Varney) Smith. Charleen went through the Clinton School system and was a past member of the Church of Christ. Charleen worked for various businesses in the area including Swiss Co., the Lafayette and the Travel Lodge. Her favorite job, which she never considered as a job, was babysitting many children.
Charleen was brought up in South Clinton and loved that heritage. Although she was a private person, she kept her entire family as her main priority, babysitting and caring for her nieces and nephews and as a caregiver for several elderly relatives. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.
Charleen is survived by one niece - Shelia (Jack) Greve of Clinton, IA.; two nephews - Warren Smith of Clinton, IA. and Curtis (Carol) Smith of Maquoketa, IA., with many cousins and friends.
Preceding Charleen in death were her parents and one brother - Bennie.
