Obituary for Catherine & Richard James

Catherine A. and Richard “Dick” W. James were lovingly together for 59 years, united in marriage on December 17, 1961 at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Clinton, Iowa. Even with the passing of Catherine on Tuesday, December 29, that separation of love would only last 32 hours as Dick passed away on Wednesday December 30, 2020 – together again eternally. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Lemke Funeral Homes (2610 Manufacturing Dr.). A visitation occurs one hour prior from 10 a.m. until the service hour at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Catherine was born June 4, 1943 in Anamosa, Iowa the daughter of William and Mary (Wolfe) Faur. Dick was born July 28, 1941 in Lincoln, Kansas the son of Howard and Marjorie (Burns) James. Catherine was a 1961 graduate of Our Lady of Angels High School in Clinton, while Dick was a 1959 graduate of Clinton High School.

Over the years they loved, supported, cared for each other, however they also had their own interest. Catherine enjoyed putting together crafts, knitting and crocheting. She loved to design and put nice quilts together for family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for the Holidays. Dick loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking.

Dick would ultimately retire from Alcoa and Catherine concluded her career working for the Clinton School System – she was affectionately known as the “Lunch Room Lady” and even in retirement received nice cards from former students who remembered her kindness and love. Both loved their family very much, especially the grandchildren and will be incredibly missed.

Both were members of Prince of Peace Catholic Parish.

Dick and Catherine are survived by three sons – Robert A. James of Iowa City, IA., Jeffrey (Melinda) James of Cedar Rapids, IA and Brian (Vicki) James of Wakefield, NH; three grandchildren – Lydia, Hannah and Derek; Catherine is also survived by one sister – Evelynn (Greg) Weis of Clinton; three brother in-laws - Jim (Sue) James of Camanche, Doug Hall of Clinton and John Andresen of Clinton; Dick is also fondly remembered by his brother – Jim (Sue) James of Camanche and sister in-law Rose James of Clinton with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
