Obituary for Bruce W. Kokjohn

Bruce W. Kokjohn, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away January 29, 2014, in his home surrounded by his family. Although Bruce was "tough as nails," an aggressive form of cancer took his life in just less than two months. With the help of Hospice, he was able to spend his final days at home with those he loved the most, his family and friends. Through all the commotion, he would say, "I am enjoying this."
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton, Iowa. A visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bruce was born in Clinton, Iowa, on March 7, 1963. He was the son of William and Dorothy Kokjohn. Bruce graduated from Clinton High School in 1981, and went directly into the workforce. He began his career in the warehouse at Clausen Companies in 1985. He transferred into the tin shop shortly thereafter, and in 1989, became Shop Foreman. In 1997, Bruce ventured to Air Control, Inc. for eight years, and then returned to Clausen Companies as a Shop Supervisor where he was currently employed.
Bruce married Mary Beth Gordon on July 20, 1991 at Eagle Point Park in Clinton. In wanting to give his children a strong Catholic faith, Bruce and Mary Beth renewed their wedding vows at Sacred Heart Church, and began their journey in Christ with his surviving children, Rebecca, 22, Christina 21, Jacquelyn 18.
Bruce had an incredible love for life. Spending time camping, enjoying summer days in the pool, cooking over the grill, and sitting around a campfire with friends were definitely highlights of his life. His last summer was spent boating on the Ole Miss, something he had waited many years to do.
Bruce is survived by Mary Beth, his adored wife; his three beautiful daughters, and his little buddy (grandson) Owen, 3; three siblings Sandy (Dave) Cozzens and children Shane (Terra) Cozzens, Tara (Jody) Still, and Chris (Marlena) Cozzens; Gail (Lyle) Haylett and children Travis Turner and Rachel (Mike) Anderson; and John (Kim) Kokjohn and children Lindsey Kness and Lucas Kokjohn; and ten great nieces and nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
