Obituary for Betty Lois "Aunt Betty" Johnson (Stearns)

Betty “Aunt Betty” Lois Johnson, 58, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at MercyOne Medical Center on Friday, May 20, 2022. Honoring her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a celebration of her life taking place from 11 am until 1 pm on Saturday, May 28, at Lemke Funeral Home – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). Burial takes place at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Betty was born July 19, 1963 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Sharyl (Anderson) Stearns. She was united in marriage to Wayne Johnson on August 29, 1981 in Clinton, Iowa.

Betty worked for the Associate Benevolent Society, in Clinton, for 20+ years. She would often volunteer there too.

Betty enjoyed socializing with friends and family. She loved the outdoors, especially fishing. She was a loving and caring “neighborhood mother” to many children, feeding and guiding them – her door was always open. She loved helping anyone who was less fortunate. Above all she loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren with whom she loved spending time playing with them. She will be incredibly missed by friends and family.

Betty is survived by her husband Wayne of Clinton, her children - Eric Johnson, Tabatha Proud, Josh Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Michelle Johnson all of Clinton; five grandchildren - Haley, Jasmine, Devauntae, Alayna; Alexa; one great-grandchild - Javier; one sister - Lynsi Stearns of Clinton and two brothers - Bob (Beth) Stearns of Manchester, IA and Greg (Emily) Stearns of Des Moines, IA; Her mother - Sharyl (Jim "Mitch") Mitchell of Wapello, IA; her father - Robert "Babe" (Roxann) Stearns of Camanche; with several nieces, nephews, cousins & friends and many other friends who as a child Betty was a mother figure.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, one aunt - Kathy Stearns and several uncles.

Memorials made can be directed to the wishes of the family.
