Obituary for Betty E. Higbee

Betty E. Higbee, 89 of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at Prairie Hills Assisted Living on Friday, September 11, 2015. Honoring her final wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. visitation taking place on Tuesday, September 15, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel. Private burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Betty was born January 5, 1926 in Mount Carroll, Illinois the daughter of Earl C. and Mable R (Dresbach) Sword. She was a graduate of Mount Carroll High School. She was united in marriage to Charles 'Reke' Higbee on September 4, 1949 in Clinton, Iowa; Charles passed away on December 12, 2012.
Betty enrolled at the Jane Lamb Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and graduated as a certified Registered Nurse. She continued working at Jane Lamb Hospital for many years, retiring in December, 1984. When not working as an RN, Betty was a homemaker. She loved little dogs and enjoyed working on crafts. She also enjoyed camping with friends and loved spending winters in Fort Myers, Florida with her husband in their motor home.
Betty is survived by one daughter - Julie Campbell of Anamosa, IA.; one son - Allen Higbee (Lou Ann Goral)of Clinton, IA.; three grandsons - Alexander (Tiffany) Campbell of Hiawatha, IA., Ian (Amber) Campbell of Caldwell, TX., Brandon King of Clinton, IA.; three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, one sister - Margaret Ruth, one brother - Allen Sword and her beloved dogs - Ginger and Koko.
