Obituary for Azelene Bell (Smith)

Azelene Bell, 80, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at home on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Funeral services will take place at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 17, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). Visitation occurs 1-hour prior from 11 am until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial immediately follows at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Azelene was born January 19, 1940 in Sledge, Mississippi the daughter of Amos Jr. and Lelar (Smith) Bell. Azelene was baptized and raised a Baptist and attended the Second Baptist Church in Clinton until her health declined.

Azelene had various jobs throughout her life but her primary focus was always taking care of her family and being a homemaker.

Azelene loved being outside tending to her garden. She was a very social person and enjoyed speaking to family and friends on the phone. She enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. She loved guiding and having life conversations with her grandchildren. Above all, she loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren and will be incredibly missed.

Azelene is survived by her five daughters – Olga (Harvey) Williams, Annette (Christopher) Garrett, Donna (Earl Smith) Williams, Beverly Williams and Caletria Williams all of Clinton; one son - Duane Bell of Atlanta, GA; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister – Lillian Pollard of MS; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son - Thomas Jr, one grandchild and seven siblings.
