Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, November 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church (Sugar Creek) with Reverend Scott Lemaster presiding. Ambrose was born December 26th, 1921, in Sugar Creek (just north of Charlotte), the son of Herman and Agnes (Sappe) Roling. Ambrose was united in marriage to Dorothy Reuter on January 4th, 1944 in Sugar Creek.
Ambrose owned and operated Ambrose Construction for nearly 40 years, building homes and out buildings. He was a highly skilled carpenter and took great pride in his work.
Following retirement, Ambrose loved to build small barns, doll houses and wooden toys for children. He also found time to repair old furniture and build an occasional out building. Ambrose was always there to lend a hand to the younger carpenters just starting out in the trade and would offer guidance and his expertise with a difficult project they had. He enjoyed traveling, especially taking bus trips with his wife. He volunteered at the Saint Joseph's most of his life and also at the nursing home. He would also sneak a game of cards in when he could with his many friends. Above all he loved his children, grandchildren and great grand children.
Ambrose is survived by his children - Gerald (Diane) Roling of Le Claire, Iowa, Larry Roling of Clinton, Iowa, Loran (Cheryl) of Delmar, Iowa, Valerie (Eldon) Schmidt of Bellevue, Iowa, Rita (Allen) Lange of Knoxville, Iowa, Bryan Rolling of Florida, Tammy Valliere of Tioga, North Dakota; 23 grandchildren and several great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son Arnold, three sisters and five brothers, granddaughter- Jolene Schmidt and one grandson - Michael Roling.
Memorials can be made to the family.
