Alyce was born October 5, 1932 at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton. Alyce was the only child of Frank H. and Gertrude (O'Neil) Luthans. She married David B. Foley on May 30, 1953, they had two children – Karen Sue and Michael David. She later married John S. Moreland on September 30, 1989.
Alyce attended Clinton schools and graduated from Clinton High School, class of 1950, and then attended Mount Saint Clare College. She worked for E. I. DuPont Co. in the payroll department for eight years. She was a life-long member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was the church secretary for fifteen years, as well as the income/pledge treasurer for ten years and was on the Finance Committee for many years. Alyce was in the choir in her youth, was a Church School teacher when her children were small and also spent many years in the Altar Guild, Vestry and Search Committees. She also served as President of the Women of the Church organization, as well as on the funeral lunch committee for many years. In addition to her church involvement, Alyce was a twenty plus year member of the Associate Benevolent Society and was involved with the financial management and also served as President for three years. Alyce was also a member of Antiquers II, and the Clinton Citizens Police Academy.
Her hobbies included reading, quilting and needlepoint and other hand work. Alyce and John returned from a trip which included a visit to the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. and after seeing all the needlepoint there she convinced the Rector that St. John's should also have some needlepoint kneelers, etc. to glorify the beauty of our Lord's House. Alyce made a pulpit hanging and Bible markers to match. For the back of the Bishops chair, Alyce created a copy of a hand-drawn design of the seal of Iowa Episcopal Diocese, several kneelers for the communion rail and encouraged other members to make other appointments to glorify the beauty of her Church.
Alyce especially loved traveling with her loving husband John and they enjoyed collecting Christmas ornaments from the various places they have visited. They also enjoyed collecting antiques on their travels.
Surviving Alyce is her "gentle giant" husband – John Moreland; her daughter – Karen Monahan and granddaughter Kelly Monahan; her other daughter – Tina Foley and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Foley; her parents and all of her aunts, uncles and grandparents.
Memorials made can be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, the Kiwanis Spastic Paralysis Foundation and Kiwanis Eliminate Project.
