Obituary for Alvin "Butch" Cromer

Alvin "Butch" C. Cromer Jr., of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Select Specialty Hospital, in Davenport, Iowa on August, 29th, 2013. Funeral services will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive - west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will occur 2-1/2 hours prior to the funeral service from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th at the funeral home. Cremation rights will be accorded with a private burial at Clinton Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Butch was born April 19th, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Alvin and Emma (Schumacher) Cromer. He was a 1957 graduate of Clinton High School. He was united in marriage to Sonya Curry on November 11th, 1961 in Morrison, Illinois.
Butch was a mason contractor, making mortar and brick his life for over 50+ years, beginning with his part ownership of A. J. Cromer and Sons, Inc., founded in the 1960's, then in the mid 1980's he founded, owned and operated Cromer Masonry Inc.
Butch was a past member of the Masons Builders Club, Gyro's Club, and Ducks Unlimited. In the spare time he had, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, taking road trips and sightseeing. He was also an avid car enthusiast. He also enjoyed surprise visits, stopping in on friends and playing an occasional joke on them.
Butch is survived by his wife Sonya of Clinton, IA.; one daughter - Alisha LeBlanc of Geneseo, IL.; three sons - Brent Cromer of Clinton, IA., Steve (Colleen Wehrmann) Cromer of Sugar Grove, IL., Chad Cromer of Omaha, NE.; four granddaughters - Meghanne, Jennifer, Emily, Kristen and one grandson TJ; one brother - Paul (Nancy) Cromer of Clinton, IA.; one sister - Pearle Kettelsen of Sabula, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin granddaughter and grandson; one brother - Earl; one brother in-law Arthur; one sister in-law Alice.
