Obituary for Allen "Bud" Reistroffer

Allen 'Bud' E. Reistroffer, 89, of Camanche, Iowa passed away peacefully at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa on Saturday, August 1, 2015. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, at The Church of the Visitation, Camanche. A visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). An additional one hour visitation will occur before the 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Preston, Iowa. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bud was born December 5, 1925 in Spragueville, Iowa the son of Edward and Gladys (McMahon) Reistroffer. He was a graduate of Preston High School. Following high school, Bud served in the U.S. Army during WWII, a Staff Sergeant in the 35th Infantry, as an antitank NCO 610. He saw active combat in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations and specifically the battle of Luzon. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1946 as a highly decorated soldier. Years later, Bud would be instrumental in getting the Veterans Memorial Wall established in both Camanche and the Spragueville Cemetery.
Bud was united in marriage to Evelyn Medinger on February 22, 1949 in Springbrook, Iowa.
Bud was a farmer most of his life and also worked for the Chicago Northwestern car shops in Clinton. He was a longtime member of the Church of the Visitation in Camanche. He was also a member of the Spragueville American Legion Post 590 and a member of the Camanche VFW 9664.
During his free time he enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool and doing word searches. For Bud there was only one brand of tractor worth having, Allis Chalmers. Above all, he loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren; he will be sadly missed.
Bud is survived by his wife Evelyn of Camanche, IA.; his children - Diane (Troy) Skinner of Grand Mound, IA., Randy (Mary Jo) Reistroffer of Bryant, IA., Paula (Brian Chandler) Coleman of Goose Lake, IA., Sandra (Tom) Claussen of Anamosa, IA., Steve Reistroffer of Welton, IA., Mary Jo (Tom) McCleary of Bondurant, IA.; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister - Dorothy Beck of Spragueville, IA. and one brother - Charles (Delores) Reistroffer of Maquoketa, IA.
Preceding Bud in death were his parents, one daughter - Joann, two brothers and three sisters.
