Obituary for Alfred Stahl

Alfred Stahl, 92, of DeWitt passed away April 17th, 2012 at his home, WestWing Nursing Home, DeWitt.
Visitation will be 10-11 am on Friday April 20th, 2012 at Lemke Funeral Homes-south chapel, located west of Clinton Lawn Cemetery, 2610 Manufacturing Dr., Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services to immediately follow the visitation.
Alfred was born at his parents' house in rural Goose Lake, Iowa, on January 24, 1920; the son of William John and Emma Marie (Wenzel) Stahl. He married Irene Almeda (Hoist) Stahl on Feb. 6, 1949 in Charlotte, Iowa. Alfred took over farming when his father died at a very young age. Alfred & Irene later purchased the farm in 1952. The couple farmed near Charlotte until retiring in 1987, and they moved to DeWitt. They lived the next 22 years in a small home on 13 1/3 St. in DeWitt and then they moved to Westwing Place in July of 2009.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau. Alfred enjoyed dancing with his wife and playing cards. On the farm he enjoyed his farm mules and working with his hands. When he moved to DeWitt he discovered he enjoyed taking long walks.
Survivors include his wife Irene, his daughter Mary Kuehl and John Costello of Clinton, IA, sons William Stahl (Christina) of Urbana, IA, Julian Stahl (Cathy) of DeWitt, IA. His four grand children Michelle Turner Iowa City, Kyle Kuehl of Clinton and Julian & Harrison Stahl of DeWitt and 3 great-grand children.
Pallbearers will be Michelle Turner, Kyle Kuehl, Julian and Harrison Stahl, Dana Cochran and Richard Stimmel Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, George Alfred Stahl ; his brother, Elmer William Stahl and sister Marie Carter.
