Obituary for Albert John Westphal

Albert John Westphal, 72 of Columbus, Indiana died Friday, February 6, 2015 in his home surrounded by love. He had been battling cancer for the past year. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Dr.
He was born December 24, 1942 in Anamosa, Iowa the son of Harold and Alice Benadom Westphal. Albert was happily married for 52 years to Judy Tomman Westphal, they were married June 27, 1962 in Freeport, Illinois.
Albert worked for the Clinton Herald for forty five years. He started out working at the linotype machine in the papers composing room where he built all the legal notices and classified ads. After 4 years he was promoted to production manager, head of the press department. He retired April 7, 2007.
He loved his cabin on the Mississippi River and watching his purple martin's, taking pictures of them and also photographing eagles at the lock and dam #14 in Davenport, Iowa. He belonged to three photography clubs. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, camping, woodworking and spending time with his family and good friends. He will be missed greatly by all those who loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of Columbus, Indiana, daughter, Sheryl ( Jim) Golinvaux of Columbus, Indiana; grandchildren, Andrew and Abigail Golinvaux of Columbus, Indiana; brothers, Robert (Linda) Westphal of Rockford, IL and Eugene Westphal of Mt. Carroll, IL.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
